About Mahiti
Mahiti is a Bangalore based organization that aims to reduce the cost and complexity of
Information Technology through the strategic use of Free/Open Source Software. Mahiti
is an IT service company producing applications and related training which facilitates
knowledge sharing. We actively support Companies, Civil Society Organizations,
Governments, Institutions & Civic agencies. Over the last 9 years Mahiti has served
many organizations by building multi-platform, multi-lingual and multimedia enabled
web / Intranet / kiosk applications. Mahiti conducts trainings and workshops in
partnership with donor agencies and multi-laterals. There are 30 Engineers working at
Mahiti.

Roots of Mahiti
Mahiti started nine years ago as the IT department of SAMUHA, a nineteen year old
voluntary agency working in Karnataka. Samuha works in the areas of integrated rural
development, HIV/AIDS, Disabilities, Natural Resource Management, Watershed
Management, Geographic Information Systems, Micro-Credit Education, and Animal
Husbandry.
In April 2007, MAHITI merged with Celerity to increase its strength in FOSS and
multimedia. This merger widened MAHITI’s skill set and brings in strong design skills.

We Specialize in Plone, Zope, Python, ubuntu, PostgreSQL, PHP, Joomla, Drupal,
MySQL :
We specialize in the use of Plone, Zope and Python as the development platform. We
also extensively use of MySQL and PostgreSQL database servers. We also use other
Free/Open Source Software such as Moodle, E-Prints, Dspace and Fedora. However if
the client wishes to use a proprietary platform then we don't mind using .NET and MS
SQL Server or the Oracle Database.
Mahiti was a silver sponsor of Plone Conference 2007 , Plone Conference 2005 and Gold
Sponsor of Plone Conference 2003. Mahiti acted as the local facilitator for Plone Boot
Camp Bangalore led by Joel Burton, San Francisco, California. The Plone Boot Camp is a
low-cost, high-value Plone training course geared to getting new Plone users and
developers up to speed.
The camp was held in Bangalore over 5 days and hosted 40 professional Plone
developers and administrators.

Interesting projects
Pulse: This site is used for showing the HR analysis for Geopost in UK. It shows the
Analysis across regions and depots and also jobs.
Retention: This site is used to analyze the pattern of people joining and leaving Geopost,
UK.
This project is developed using Plone and Python.
GASLOG: GASLOG is different by design. It is portable, quick, versatile and easy-to-
use log analysis software ideal for both Geologists wanting to do a quality check of their
log data and experienced petrophysicists carrying out multi-zone, multi-well
petrophysical field analyses. This product is truly unique in its approach to
petrophysics. Integrated flash graphs aid the analysis mechanism. This project is done
using Plone, Python & Flash.
Indian Institute of Science – Virtual Lab: This project for India’s Premier research
institute was developed to allow users to conduct experiments in different laboratories
across the internet and obtain results. Each member of this laboratory can upload and
conduct experiments. This Laboratory allows the universities that are members of this
group to conduct online examinations etc. Audio and Video conferencing are other
features that this online virtual classroom has. This project was developed using PHP,
MySQL & CGI scripts.
Metlife: This project required the development of a Customer Relationship Management
system for Metlife. PHP & MySQL have been used to develop this project.
Cranes: This was a computer based tutorial developed for Cranes. This has been
developed using Adobe Flash.
John Abraham – Hindi Movie Star: This project was developed using Joomla, an open
source content management system in PHP. The requirement was for a robust solution
in quick time for the personal site of one of Bollywood’s biggest movie star.

Staff Credentials
Murray Culshaw
Murray Culshaw is a senior development worker and is the Chair of the Board of
Directors at Mahiti. He has been involved in many aspects of development; and has
been director of Oxfam in India. Also the author of one of the most useful directories of
the voluntary sector in India, he currently runs Murray Culshaw Consulting, a
consultancy which encourages social and development organizations to communicate
with, seek support from and become accountable to the public.

Sreekanth S Rameshaiah
Sree is Executive Director at Mahiti. Projects come under Sree's purview after the design
phase is completed. It is his responsibility to define project roadmaps, allocate resources
and ensure that production life cycles strictly adhere to functionality and timelines. Sree
has represented Mahiti at several workshops, training programmes and advocacy
workshops, one particularly high profile was the recently concluded Plone Conference II
at Vienna, Austria.

Sunil Abraham
Sunil has a Bachelor degree in Industry and Production. Aside from his responsibilities
as Marketing Director of Mahiti, Sunil is involved in system design, project management
and documentation, resource allocation and monitoring. It is also in his set of
responsibilities to ensure that the staff of Mahiti maintains a high level of technical
competence and other soft skills through technical and non-technical training. As a FOSS
advocate, Sunil has attended and spoken at several international conferences and
workshops on subjects varying from IPR to FOSS for Government. While on sabbatical
with the APDIP, a project of the UNDP, Sunil managed the International Open Source
Network (www.iosn.net) Sunil was recently elected to the Information Sub-board of the
Open Society Institute.

Vijay Rasquinha
Vijay is the CTO and heads the technological function at Mahiti. His responsibilities
include ensuring that Mahiti's collective technology skills are at the very bleeding edge
and coordinating internal training and staff review. It is his responsibility to define
project roadmaps, allocate resources and ensure that production life cycles strictly
adhere to functionality and timelines. He supports clients with decisions relating to
computer hardware, connectivity, server setup and maintenance.

Chethan Elvis Das
Chethan has a Bachelor degree in Electronics and Communication. He is the Marketing
Director and responsible for analyzing and understanding the client's business
requirement and translating it into a project requirement. His technical background and
marketing experience for 7 years has ensured clear understanding of client requirements
by developers. In the year 2000, he co- founded Celerity Solutions which was merged
with Mahiti in 2007.

Sunil Nallode
Sunil Nallode heads the design function at Mahiti. As the Chief Design Officer, Sunil is
responsible for the design and multimedia requirements. He started as a designer 11
years ago and has worked with reputed multimedia and design companies in various
roles. In the year 2000, he co-founded Celerity Solutions which was merged with Mahiti
in 2007.
